Jérôme Monney, to most simply known as "Jay", the Chief Surveyor of Waterborne Experts is not what one would call a child of the sea. This primarily has to do with his nationality. Being a Swiss citizen with Italian roots, some might say that the Swiss, being landlocked, don't know much about boats but most forget that it is exactly there, on Lake Geneva, where the best sailing teams in the world nowadays go to train for the world's major races and regattas.

 

Having said that, building ships and sailing are something, which runs and have run in his family for several generations.

Both Jay's great-grandfather & grandfather were Italian shipbuilders on the shores of the Lago Maggiore, in the northern part of Italy.

Eventually Jay's grandfather settled on the shores of Lake Geneva and carried on his trade, building some of the most beautiful wooden boats in all of Switzerland and making a name for himself in all of Italy and many parts of Europe.

As such, Jay was taken to the "chantier naval" (shipyard) even before he could walk and even his cradle was a miniature sailing boat, complete with mast, rigging and sails.

​As a result, Jay ended up being a professional dive guide on some of the world's most renowned luxury live-aboard diving vessels for nearly two decades and after over 10'000 dives around some of the world's best diving destinations in Southeast Asia, incl. Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and all of Indonesia, he figured it was time to move on and get a "real job".
